Best Futures Prop Firms in 2026: An Honest Ranking

Best Futures Prop Firms in 2026: An Honest Ranking

Futures prop firms get compared less critically than CFD firms, mostly because the space is smaller and dominated by a handful of names that have been around for over a decade. That doesn't mean every firm in this category deserves equal trust. Commission structures, drawdown mechanics, and payout speed still vary a lot from firm to firm, and the rule that trips up most futures traders (end-of-day trailing drawdown versus intraday trailing drawdown) gets glossed over in most comparison lists.

Unlike our CFD prop firm ranking, we don't personally trade funded futures accounts at Wick, so we're not going to pretend we have the same firsthand read here. What we can offer is the same standard we apply everywhere else: no affiliate codes shaping the list, aggregated trader reports instead of cherry-picked reviews, and a clear separation between what's actually documented and what's just a pattern worth watching.

If you're still deciding between futures and CFDs in the first place, our CFD vs futures comparison breaks down which one fits your trading style before you spend money on either.

How We Evaluate a Futures Prop Firm

  • Drawdown mechanics. End-of-day trailing drawdown versus intraday trailing drawdown changes what your strategy can actually survive. This matters more in futures than almost anywhere else in prop trading.
  • Commission per contract. Futures costs are more transparent than CFD spreads, but they still vary meaningfully between firms and account tiers.
  • Payout speed and consistency. Some firms process withdrawals automatically within hours. Others rely on manual review that can stretch into days or longer.
  • Track record. Futures has some of the longest-running firms in the entire prop trading industry. Longevity carries real weight here.
  • Rule transparency. Whether the rules published during evaluation match the rules applied once you're funded.

The Lineup

Topstep. Operating since 2012, the longest track record of any futures prop firm. Focuses exclusively on CME futures (ES, NQ, CL, GC). Single-step evaluation with no minimum time requirement. Known for the deepest futures-specific experience in the industry.

Tradeify. One of the fastest-growing futures firms, with a reported $150 million plus in verified payouts. Uses end-of-day trailing drawdown across all account types, which is a meaningful advantage for traders who see large unrealized swings mid-session. Known for offering multiple funding paths, including evaluation-based and instant funding.

My Funded Futures. Holds one of the highest Trustpilot ratings of any prop firm in any category. Automatic payout approval system that typically processes withdrawals within 24 hours. Known for fast, low-friction payouts.

Take Profit Trader. Built around letting traders withdraw from day one, with no waiting period and no minimum number of profitable days before a payout. Known for having no daily loss limit on any account, which is unusual in this category.

Lucid Trading. A newer firm with an average payout processing time reported around 15 minutes, among the fastest in the industry. One-time fees with no monthly subscriptions. Known for allowing news trading on all accounts, including during high-impact events like NFP and FOMC.

Apex Trader Funding. Simplified its rule set significantly in a 2026 update, replacing monthly subscriptions with one-time fees and automating payouts. Known for giving traders 100% of their first $25,000 in profit before the standard split applies.

Pricing, commission structures, and specific rules change often. Always confirm current terms directly on the firm's pricing page before buying an evaluation.

Our Picks

Topstep

Topstep's biggest asset is time. Thirteen-plus years of continuous operation is a track record almost nothing else in this industry can match, and that matters in a space where firms still shut down with little warning. The evaluation itself is straightforward: a single-step Trading Combine with no minimum time requirement, which means some traders pass in days rather than weeks.

The trade-off is a monthly subscription model, which adds up if you need multiple attempts, and futures-only market access.

Tradeify

The end-of-day trailing drawdown across every account type is the standout feature here. A lot of futures traders get stopped out on intraday-trailing accounts by unrealized drawdown that would have recovered by the close. Tradeify's structure removes that specific risk, which is a real edge for strategies that take on meaningful intraday heat before working out.

Being newer than Topstep or Apex means a shorter track record, so weigh that against the drawdown advantage based on your own risk tolerance.

My Funded Futures

The Trustpilot volume and rating here are hard to ignore: tens of thousands of reviews at a very high average. Combined with an automated payout approval system that generally clears withdrawals within a day, this is one of the more frictionless payout experiences in the category.

The core account tiers split at 80/20 rather than 90/10, so check which specific plan you're buying before assuming the split.

Take Profit Trader

If day-one withdrawals and no daily loss limit matter more to you than anything else on this list, this is the firm built specifically around those two features. It's a genuinely different risk structure than most competitors, which removes one of the more restrictive rules found elsewhere in futures prop trading.

The base PRO account uses intraday trailing drawdown rather than end-of-day, so read the difference between PRO and PRO+ carefully before choosing a tier.

Red Flags Worth Watching (Across the Industry, Not One Firm)

Futures prop firms are generally more stable than the newer, less regulated corners of the CFD space, but the same underlying patterns still show up in trader reports, just applied to futures-specific rules:

  • Loosely defined consistency or contract-sizing rules. Some firms apply vague rules around "consistent" position sizing or contract counts that get interpreted differently once a large payout is on the line.
  • Ambiguous scalping or timing rules. Rules that restrict trades under a certain duration can be calculated in ways that aren't obvious from the rule page itself. Ask for a worked example before you assume you understand the math.
  • Platform lock-in. Some firms only offer a single proprietary platform with no alternative, which limits your options if that platform has execution or stability issues.
  • Retroactive rule changes. The same red flag that applies to CFD firms applies here: rules that get applied to funded accounts after the trader already passed, without clear advance notice.

As with CFD firms, none of this means a specific firm is acting in bad faith. It means the rule wording deserves a careful read, and a worked example from support, before you're relying on it for a real payout.

A Quick Checklist Before You Buy a Futures Evaluation

  1. Confirm whether the account uses end-of-day or intraday trailing drawdown. This single detail changes what your strategy can survive.
  2. Check the commission per contract on your specific instrument and account tier, not just the advertised headline rate.
  3. Search the firm's name plus "payout" on Reddit and read specific trader threads, not just star ratings.
  4. Confirm which platforms are supported and whether you're comfortable being locked into a single one.
  5. Read the funded-stage rules separately from the evaluation-stage rules. They aren't always the same.

FAQ

Are futures prop firms cheaper than CFD prop firms?

Not consistently. Some futures firms have low-cost entry tiers on smaller accounts, and some CFD firms start challenges under $30. Compare specific firms and account sizes rather than assuming one category is cheaper across the board.

What's the difference between end-of-day and intraday trailing drawdown?

Intraday trailing drawdown locks in based on your account's highest point during the trading day, including unrealized profit. End-of-day trailing drawdown only locks in based on your closing balance. A trade that dips deep into unrealized drawdown before recovering by the close can survive on an EOD account and get stopped out on an intraday one, even with an identical outcome.

Which account type actually makes sense for my strategy: 1-step, 2-step, or instant funding?

The same logic applies here as in CFDs. Most futures firms offer some mix of 1-step, 2-step, and instant funding accounts, and each has different profit targets, drawdown rules, and consistency requirements. A 1-step evaluation gets you funded faster but often comes with tighter drawdown limits. Instant funding skips the evaluation but usually starts at a lower split. Read the specific rules for each account type against your own trading style before choosing, rather than assuming they're interchangeable.

Do lower commissions always mean a better firm?

No. A slightly higher commission from a firm with fast, reliable payouts and clear rules is worth more than the cheapest commission from a firm with an unclear track record. Commission is one input, not the whole decision.

Whether you end up trading CFDs, futures, or both, Wick Journal tracks your setups and sessions the same way, so your data stays honest no matter which prop firm you're funded with.
